that was nice.

thx for the review, dood.

i like the absence of that annoying trance synth that every trance song ever uses. :D though this seems really generic, when u make the full thing id like to see more originality. btw i think the bass synth could be better. otherwise keep it up :D

im tryin my first trance-ish song, check it out puhleeze!!

DSMagnum responds:

You mean those detuned leads that use two saws and a sine? Yeah I think they are kind of generic. The final almost done. I just need to go back and do some mastering.

Thanks for the review! I'll get to your song later.

:D nice

i liked this once it got to the middle where all the synths kick in, it was relaxing and nice to listen to :)

for criticisms [constructive, of course],

sometimes the synths werent synchronized with each other, so that could use work. the bassline seemed too simplistic at the beginning and stayed in the same key, making the emotions from ur other instruments kinda weak. But as the song goes on it sounds nice/relaxing. The drum programming could use work, and i think some pads/more reverb could make this song have a deeper/more immersive atmosphere. Also, the piano repeatedly got cut off, which was kinda annoying but okay.

overall this was cool to listen to, despite some minor flaws. make more stuff yay!

not too bad :D

im jst gonna review as the song goes, give constructive criticism and accolades as i see it.

the synth at the beginning that pans a lot was really cool! i think you should have let it hang on throughout the entire song, if u ask me.

i think that the way the first drums were distorted seemed a little out of place from the euphoric atmosphere at the beginning. later on, the drums change, and theyre fine, but they dont vary enough for my liking. also i think that itd be cooler if ur drum patterns were more complex than what you have right now.

whenever the bass kicked in, the audio clipped a lot, but i dont know if its jst my headfones, but the bass and the synth fx you used were very cool.

i didnt like how the song jst broke down as it progressed; at the beginning, you had a awhole atmosphere of elements, but by the end, all i get is an awkward drum pattern.

overall, this was pretty cool but the lack of variation, mastering problems (i think), and the steady decline of coolness from the beginning makes this piece worse than it could be, though it has the potential to be super awesome with some reworkin. anyway, good job bro!! (and check out my stuff... make do on ur promise :D)

DSMagnum responds:

Yeah, the mastering was horrible. I was too lazy to master it properly. I didn't really try to hard on this song. It was just an experiment for me.

its cool, but...

the melodies, although simple, were cool and got across a mildly dramatic feel. the drum loop u used was good too. however...

the main synth that plays throughout the song just flat out hurts! its so loud compared to everthing else, and sounds very harsh, so it comes off to me as irritating. also, id like to see more variation in the drums rather than just loop them for the entire song.

so, although the song itself was okay, some elements made it less intersting and listenable than it could be. work hard at it, you can make an awesome song if u tried since this isnt that bad. [sorry if im being harsh or anything, jst givin constructive criticism.]

plz check my stuff! :D

Squirrelous responds:

Thanks! This was one of my earlier works, and I feel like I was just making something for the sake of making it.

hmmmmm

i think that the main melody and stuff sounds sweet and the bassline is great. i think, however, that the melodies dont have enuf low frequencies to sound powerful and the bassline should serve as a more supporting aspect of the track rather than stand out more than the melody did because the melody sounded too weak to stand on its own and the bassline was comparatively louder. Also, the drum patters could be more "active" if you know what i mean, and throughout the piece you were getting some audio clipping. but as an incomplete track, this isnt too bad. i still think the melody sounds uber cool! gj!

check my stuff pretty plz! save my new good track from the evil blammer!

Captain-Watermelon responds:

I'll keep what you said in mind when I start fixing this song up. I probably won't do it right away because I'm starting to get sick of it after working on it so much =P

Thanks for the review!

7s allll around

well before i say anything, i just think that this is more breakbeatish than dnb, jst to tell u.

wellll first i think everything in general sounds a little unclear/distorted but mostly okay. lol.

the drum pattern was nice but u jst kept repeating it for like forever. id like to see some more variation than an occasional 1-2 measure breakdown or something.

the bassline was good, but the synth u used could be better. it didnt sound like it fit with the song, and id like it if it was more mono than stereo. also, the second melody of the bassline that comes in like 1/4 thru could be changed into an actual lead with a different, higher synth rather than act as it does now, and that would be cooler.

i think that you could make this song more interesting by adding more melodies and making this either more relaxed or emotional, if you ask me. lastly the ending didnt seem to fit very well with the weird lo-fi tom things, but thats minor.

check my stuff plz!! :D

LfunkeyA responds:

yeah, i know this track has flaws all over the place, it needs alot of work yet. The beat does get repetitive, and the bassline aint that good. i dont think i'll be reposting this one, cause i'm sick of reposts. i'll try making better tracks. as for the breakbeatish thing, there ain't no breakbeat section on newgrounds :). Anyways, thanks for the review, will check your stuff out right away.

meh...

the synth and drums were really clear but, yeah, ill agree with the dude below me that this needs more bass. however i also think that the drums themselves arent very intense/fast [see professional dnb stuff, dnb drum patterns are generally more energetic than this and the drums themselves are often more distorted], and the synth/melody makes this song sound like a circus or something, which isnt a good thing. often dnb doesnt even have a melody. but yeah. i think the synth should be switched out for something lower and more unfeeling, and the notes should be rearranged.

sorry if im being brutally honest, jst giving feedback. gj for starting in a new genre, though!!

check my stuff pretty plz! :D

Trickmixer responds:

you dont have to be sorry for being brutally honest. as a matter a fact, i think thats probably the best thing you could have done in this review because as you know this is a whole new genre for me. i dont know what to say except thank you very much for your constructive feed back you gave me. <3
thanx

hmmm nice

i actually kinda like this one. i like how everythings short and quick, it makes the song sound really tight (in more than one way :P). i think that the only thing id change is the synth at the beginning that goes on thruout the entire track, id rearrange the notes so it is less dissonant with the other thing and id make it more subtle since to me it feels out of the stacatto, sort-of-silent-but-not-really vibe of the track. gj dood.

check my stuff plz :D

amilicious responds:

Thanks for the advice. oh and I like your audio, the style is really cool. Keep it up!

mmm

i really liked the melody of the main synth once the track got on, how it was chopped up and how the tone vibrated/lfo-ed and stuff. that was cool. it was nice. i felt the bassline could hvae sounded more bassy and maybe a bit less noisy.

my main complaints are that the lead seemed a bit too unclear/choppy (i mean its good to a certain extent but it seemed lke too much here.). also, i wish the beat had more than the bass drum and the synth, like some other electronic percussion to make it sound more interesting

but now that i read the other reviews this was supposed to be an experiment? thats not what i think of when i hear experimental techno but thats cool. well yeah. gj dood :)

check my stuff plz :D

R-VeeBee responds:

You're totally right about everything! But indeed, it's an experiment. :)

Thanks for the comment!

meh

ill jst give u comments as i hear stuff. since ur just experimenting, ill just give u feedback. sorry if i sound kinda cruel but thats a good way to get better.

1. beginning the chord-ing synth is kinda annoying
2. the dramatic bass drum thing is nice. not so much the 4x4 beat, it just sounds out of place and annoying.
3. good that the hi hats are goin fast. until part 2, in such case it doesnt fit in.
4. that synth is annoying again. and its lagging to the beat.
5. that ambient pad in the back isnt bad
6. the bass drum came back its too fast and not diverse and so its annoying lol
7. choose something different than those claps they just sound too lofi and out of this generation already since [i assume] ur not aiming for something really old-skool.

none of ur instruments are edited/distorted much at all, and theres a huge lack of effects to make this more interesting. but dont worry with experience ull get better. it took me a year to make anything half-decent, and im not that good yet, ive gotten significantly better. keep hope alive ;D
